The Process:
Step 1
High quality reference photographs will be required. This is so I can capture the unique details and likeness of the colour and character. Here are some simple tips previous clients found useful when photographing for commission:
-
Try to photograph outside or by a large window to avoid unnatural lighting.
-
Avoid really sunny days to photograph as this will create shadows which will impair details.
-
Be level with your subject(s) when capturing your photo to avoid distortion.
-
Fill the cameras viewfinder where possible, ensuring more subject detail and less background. Don't forget backgrounds can be added.
If you would like me to come and photograph and live within a 10 mile radius of high Wycombe, I am happy to visit for the cost of my travel.
Step 2
Once I have checked the photographs, a final concept has been decided and requirements have been discussed and met, I can give you the total cost and approximate timescale. I offer a friendly and personalised service ensuring communication throughout.
Step 3
Once your commission is complete and full payment is taken, I will dispatch your finished work using a reputable carrier, usually Royal Mail. International shipping is available at extra cost. Alternatively, I can deliver your piece to you if you live within a 10 mile radius or if you live locally you are welcome to collect in person.
Material Choices:
I use Caran D'Ache Luminance 6901 pencils for all of my colour drawings, which offer a high pigment concentration and exceptional lightfastness meaning your portrait will last a lifetime.Alternatively for black and white portraits I use Staedtler Mars Lumograph black pencils. The high proportion of carbon helps to stop the development of a harsh sheen on the work when light reflects off it, giving a prominent matt finish.
Pricing:
The price depends on the medium you would like me to use to bring your portrait to life, the number of subjects you wish to feature in the piece and the size you wish your portrait to be. Personalised sizes are available. A final price will be finalised and discussed before drawing commences. A 50% deposit is taken once work begins and full payment taken once the commission is complete.
Framing:
I usually offer my clients a handful of frame options depending on the styles and preferences discussed. This is something I am happy to offer guidance on or I can advise of good local framing shops if you are within the area.
